I have this beautiful one year old ?Chihuahua. I have had her now for 8 days. She is so thin you can see her spine, ribs, and back hip bones. I would like to know what I can feed her that will fatten her up. She loves to sleeps and gets cold quite easily. What can you suggest for me to feed her, i have tried everyting I know.
Thanks
Mary

I have 2 labs so I might not be the best person to talk to , but I use pedigree. My dogs love it and it keeps them full and plump!

The best food would be a good quality, high calorie food.  Stay away from the lower grade foods like Pedigree because they're nothing more than foods with high filler contents.  Look at the contents of the foods and avoid foods with grains as the top 2 ingredients.  Innova makes an excellent food that is grain free.  Has high protein content that will help your Chi gain some much needed weight.   Wellness makes some great foods also.  If you can't afford the higher priced food, Purina ONE isn't a great food but it's not a real bad one either.  You can also add a soft fried egg to her meals that will also be good for her.  Yogurt, cottage cheese, green beans, peas, and carrots are also good to add as a healthy filler.  Only about a heaping tablespoon of the cooked veggies.  Because she is so small and malnourished, you should be feeding her 3-4 smaller meals per day.  About 1/4 cup each time.  Then as she starts gaining some muscle and weight, decrease her feedings to about 1/4 cup twice a day.  And make sure she has fresh clean water available at all times.  Good luck on getting her back to a healthy weight.  Be careful that you don't make her overweight.  That's just as bad as being underweight.

"EVO" is a really good quality dog food. It's a little pricey, but since you have a little dog, it may not dent your wallet too much. It's high protein, with none of that crap they put in other commercial dog foods. Also, you may want to have it checked out by a vet if you haven't already done so, it could have a thyroid problem or another medical condition. My youngest boxer was a bit ribby, so we put him on the EVO with really good results.

I have to agree that EVO is a great food.  Feed the Chi twice a day about 1/4 cup each serving.
A lower priced but still good food is Merrick.  You can serve it dry or add a bit of warm water to it to make a nice gravy.  There are also a variety of flavors that your dog will love.  Again, only feed 1/4 cup twice a day.  If the Chi is very malnourished then feed it like you would a pup....3 times a day until he gains a bit of weight and then cut it down to twice a day.  Make sure he's getting exercise to build up his muscle tone too.
