I have a 7yr. old female cat who has suddenly become incontinent and has a significant amount of blood in her urine. I have been giving her cranberry extract and an herbal "stop leak" drops. I know what she really needs is to see a vet. I simply don't have the money. Does anyone know of a charitable organization that helps pet owners with vet bills?

I am so sorry.  Wish I could help you.  Maybe some kind vet would work out a payment schedule with you.  Worth a call and a try.  Good luck!!!

Your cat may be seriously ill. You need to figure out a way to get her to the vet ASAP. Why did you take on a pet you couldn't afford to care for?

well sometimes people try to help out and give a home to an animal but sometimes there are occasions were one cant affford everything all the time and instead of  judging if you would care try to help. i think pet care has become tooo expensive and the government should have a sort of program and service for low cost pet services OF COURSE with a qaulification form and requriments

You know, I get sick and tired of stupid comments like this.  Not everybody has the means as apparently you do.  But, MAYBE the animal in question was HOMELESS?  Maybe it was a STRAY on the side of a street???  And MAYBE this person didn't want to see it run over by a car or mistreated by uncaring people.  So MAYBE they wanted to give the animal a chance with the love they had to offer.   Or... Maybe they had an income that allowed them to support a pet when they got it and because of unfortseen circumstances had a decrease in income thus causing them to make hard decisions between pets and necessities.  And MAYBE I can relate to ALL of the above.

I can totally understand what you are going through this Sun. my German Shepard got out my yard due to a broken board from the recent storm.I got him three years ago he was a Katrina rescue he was bald and ugly nobody wanted him,so iI took him spent hundreds of dollars on him made him picture perfect. These last 2 months we started having it very hard.We love him deeply.I've moved twice just to keep him this last move I got him and my kids a big yard ,well his hair started to fall out from his yeast problem I've been treating since I got him and with us having it had this month I've been feeding him cheap food not the Purina he's use to well he started to lose weight and pull out his fur I was suposed to bring him to the Vet. but then the storm came and we had to use the money to get us all out of town including my dog of course.Sat. my fiance got paid so this week i was to make an appt. for him.The neighbors called the cops because he got out the cops took him from me and is trying to charge me with simple cruelt for failer to provide Vet. care he was not trying to hear me even when i told him he was to go this week. They didnt even give us a chance to make him better from his sickness he just took our kids dog and left us in pieces. All i ever did was try to make him happy and give him all the love he would ever need nobody ever plans to fall into a hole but it happens some people don't seem to understand

Well, I get sick of the animals that are returned to shelters simply because they are sick and people don't have the money to take them to the vet..many of whom come back in bad shape because people waited too long hoping by some miracle the animal would get better, all the while neglecting vet care. At one shelter where I worked, such a person was charged with animal cruelty. Neglect=cruelty. Not taking a cat to the vet because you don't have the money is neglect.

Geez..this person doesn't need to be judged. The present state of the economy now with Mortgage companies folding and banks closing, people losing their jobs...why should this person be treated rudely by nasty comments. This person's financial status is no ones' business. Its not neglect when a person is asking for financial help to take a pet to a clinic with NO money. Neglect is sayin "F' it, I don't have the money so I'm gonna sit and do nothing". A reply for you with the problem: Try and talk to your Vet about putting a percentage down & a payment plan for the remaining balance. Or, another alternative is VPI Pet Insurance. I pay $32 a month and you get like atleast 90% back after putting in the claim. It takes about 2wks to get the money from the Insurance company but hey, atleast you get most of the money back. Good luck with your pet...Be Blessed

Try the SPCA, or try to google for low cost care through the local humane society.  I recently saw a sight that listed a number of places by state.

The reality of this topic is that today's society believes that it is a person's RIGHT to own a pet rather than a privilege that depends on whether or not you have the income to take on the responsibility of owning a pet.  Not only is it a privilege, it's a luxury people! If you don't have the means in the way of an income that will provide food, Veterinary care, proper housing and containment, and training then you have NO BUSINESS acquiring a pet in the first place! Instead of teaching your children that it's o.k. to be irresponsible and that it's o.k. to allow a pet to suffer because "you love it", and that it's o.k. to take on a responsibility and expect your community to pick up the bill, why don't you teach your children that it's their social responsibility to live within their means and to enjoy the things in life that they can afford to enjoy.
Do this cat a favor and take it to the nearest animal shelter and hope it finds a home that can actually take care of a pet.

She most likely has" cystitis". common in cats that eat dry food containing "ash".
One visit should help & change the cat food.

Sounds like a kidney infection which is very serious/life-threatening if not treated.  I would suggest calling vets in the yellow pages and see if anyone knows of a non-profit vet.  I found two different non-profit vets that way in two different states I've lived in.  You may have to drive a bit longer, but it's worth it.  Also, the SPCA is a non-kill shelter with resources to charity groups that help out sick animals.  Try calling them.  Logically it's better to put your pet to sleep than to let it suffer, but there are people who adopt pets with special needs.  Either way, it's a tough decision to make.  I know... I'm having to make the same decision myself.  If you love your pet, do what helps them.  Anything less is not love, it's selfishness.
