Next Hearing Date For Serial Cat Torturer, Timothy Kooyman September 26, 2008, 8:30 a.m., Dept. R-2 Location: San Bernardino County Superior Court, Rancho Cucamonga District, 8303 N. Haven Avenue, Rancho Cucamonga, California Re: The People of the State of California v. Timothy Arie Kooyman, Case No. FWV 801497 Brief Summary of this Case: Twenty-four year-old Timothy Kooyman was originally charged in the San Bernardino County Superior Court with 6 counts of animal cruelty, and 1 count of recklessly causing a fire of a structure or forest in the above-referenced action. At the time of his arrest on May 13, 2008, Kooyman was on probation for a different animal cruelty conviction - for a crime he committed in November 2007 in Upland. On May 13, 2008, on or near Hellman Avenue, Kooyman lured neighborhood pet cats to his truck with opened cans of cat food. His method of torture was particularly gruesome: he broke all four legs of his victims, he cut off their tails with scissors, one cat was stabbed in the eye, and another cat's throat was slit. Earlier on that same day, a different cat was set on fire after being doused with gasoline. This incident caused a hillside brush fire atop Etiwanda Avenue. At a preliminary hearing in this matter on July 1, 2008, the Judge discharged the first 3 counts of animal cruelty because those crimes occurred at or near a motel in Corona, which is out of jurisdiction, in Riverside County. Voices for Pets is encouraging members of the community to attend the court hearings to show their support for the defenseless victims in this case. Additionally, Voices for Pets would be grateful if you would let your voice be heard by writing or calling the District Attorney's Office at the contact information listed below. Ask them to please prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law. Request that no plea bargain be allowed that does not include felony conviction on all counts. Timothy Kooyman is violent and poses a threat to human beings - not just animals. Please write: Michael A. Ramos, District Attorney The San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office 316 N.
