There has been an outbreak in our town of Panaleukapenia (not sure I spelled it right) What is or what should be the correct handling procdures of the outbreak? We adopted a kitten who passed away within 5 days of adoption. We were then told that IF we get a cat, at least 6months or older, that has been vacinated against panleuk, and if we bleach bedding, food bowls, anything the cat came in contact with that everything would be ok. SO we did that. The new cat who was 9 months old, full set up panleuk and other vaccinations, died after having her for 6 days. We have been given so much different information on this virus, some from vets, shelter staff, vet techs, onlin, none of it the same. Also, is there a better way once a virus that is so contagious hits that it can be contained better? IE: stop all adoptions until after a specified time frame to make sure every cat/kitten that was exposed does not have it. Thankfully we did not have other cats or kittens at our house that could have been infected, but most people I know have multiple cats.
