I had a feral cat neutered about 3 years ago. She recently developed an upper respitory infection. I received antiobiotics for her and it has been about 2 weeks now. She now seems to be symptom free with the acception of her very large belly. If this were an allergic reaction to the antiobiotics, I would think it would have appeared within the first few days. Can she possibly be pregnant..??? Do they take out the uterus when they are neutered or just a snip somewhere that perhaps did not take? I love this cat very much and have cared for her for about 6 years now. She was a feral cat here already when I moved to this apartment. I would be thrilled to be having some kittens, but is this possible? thank you for any advice or suggestions. Cheryl
First of all, female animals are spayed and males are neutered. When spayed the entire uterus is taken out. There is no way she could have been spayed and is pregnant now. If you had her spayed, did you just release her back in the wild with a fresh incision? I would think your vet went over the procedure with you before you brought her in for the surgery? I wouldn't be thrilled about having a litter of kittens unless you're going to feed and care for all the kittens she has. Most true feral cats have their litters somewhere where they'll feel the kittens are safe. Within 5 weeks those kittens will also be feral. If she's pregnant then you got ripped off. If she's not pregnant than something is seriously wrong and should be taken in for vet to check her out.
