I have a male neutered 5-year old Scottie dog named Tully who is wonderful with the family and people he knows but has begun barking and trying to bite strangers. I keep him ona leash now at all times, but he accidentally got off the other day and ran out the door and tried to bite the feet of one of the neighbors, a young guy. I felt terrible, rushed over and grabbed him, but it could have been bad. The vet said I need to try to find a behavourist, I live in Grafton MA, does anyone know one? otherwise he may have to be put down before he does something like bite someone, otherwise he will have to be anyway. I took him to a dog event yesterday in Worcester, and there were a lot of dogs there, and he was the ONLY one who was lunging at ALL the dogs and growling, barking at them, trying to bite them. Big, small, it didn't matter, all the dogs... Anyone have any ideas?

Izzy,

I am not a behaviorist but I took care of my friend's 2 yr old Scottie many times when she went on a week's vacation.  Her dog, Bleach does not like strangers and when he's with my dogs he tries to prove that he can be their leader.  He is an energetic dog and I find that if I walked with him around the block twice a day after eating (which is tires him out), he gets a good night's sleep, never rushes out the door when I open it and rarely barks at strangers when we walk.

Hope this helps!

Bleach's second mom.
