Please advise...  I live in a neighborhood in Union County that has a Home Owners ****ociation.  I just recently received a letter stating that the Board states my dogs are a problem due to barking.  I have 2 Golden Retrievers, who does NOT bark unless they see something strange.  They are in a fenced in yard and I have built a large shed for them to have shelter and sleep in at night.  They are not barking puppies have and one of them barely can get around due to arthritis.  My neighbors sit on their backyard screened porch regularly and they never back at them.  During the day should they happen to see something and bark I go out and see what is going on and tell them it is okay and get them to stop.  They only barked once at night and I was told to put them up and that is why I built the shed.  They are use to being outside prior to moving here and it is unfair and cruel to them that the neighbors aren't letting them be a dog.  I am not telling them to stop speaking while on their porch because I hear them louder than my dogs.  PLEASE advise me of anything I can do further before they try to remove them from my yard.  They are 8 yrs old and 6 yrs old and all they know are me and each other.  They are father/son.  Any advise of things I can do to get the neighbors to stop harrassing me would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I live in Texas, and I'm in the same boat.  My neighbor calls the police if the dog barks at least once.  I have been to court due to his complaints.   My dog has killed rats, snakes and possums in my back yard, but yet he is not allowed to bark.  I feel I am being harrased by the neighbor.  I have a boxer and my neighbor wants me to keep him inside my home.  He has gone insane.  Any one has any advise?

I LIVE IN OHIO AND MY NEIGHBORS CALLED MY LANDLORD ON ME TOO ABOUT MY DOGS. MY LANDLORD (WHOS ALSO A DOG LOVER) DIDNT HAVE A MAJOR BIG DEAL OVER THE SITUATION. I GOT THIS DOG WHISTLE FROM MY BROTHER AND EVERYTIME MY DOGS BARK I SQUEEZE THE TRIGGER ON THE WHISTLE AND THEY STOPPED. IT ONLY COST MY BROTHER 8 DOLLARS, BUT WORKS LIKE A PRO. AFTER LESS THAN 3 DAYS THE BARKING HAS DROPPED ALMOST IN HALF. MY DOGS, WHICH I HAVE 5 LEARNED NOT TO BARK AFTER DARK , WHICH WAS WHEN THE PROBLEM AROSE THE MOST.

I'm the neighbor that is getting ready to complain, so I'm on the other side of the situation. My neighbor lets his/her? 2 dogs out every morning and they do nothing BUT bark continually until they are brought back inside the house. They're not outside dogs and it is apparent that they don't want to be out. I am wakened every  day by their barking and can't go back to sleep because they leave them out for 30min to an hour. We love animals and have had dogs ourselves, but was very considerate of our neighbors. Tehre are many pet owners in our neigborhood but these folks are the only ones not respecting others.

I too am on the other side of the fence of barking dogs...I have not called the police, but have given my neighbor ample time to get a "muzzle" on his dogs.  He has 4 large mixed breed dogs who bark incessantly anytime they hear any noise.  He works nights, so he isn't home to hear them barking durnig the nights (3 solid hours one evening from about 2-6am...no joke).  My chihuahua is terrified to go into my own back yard because as soon as they see her they are all at the fence barking.  Please...be courteous neighbors.  If your dogs are barkers buy a shock collar (my brother in law uses these on his hunting hounds and they are quite affective), go to the trainer, call Ceasar Milan; anything...but plkease do something.  Your neighbors will thank you!

i too am on the other side, i live in Burlington, NC and have this neighbor he moved in and has several friends that stay there and they have been known to throw wild parties on the weekend and we complained about that so that was cut down abit after i called the landlords to complain, now there seems to be a puppy they tie out in the back yard at night when he goes to work or where ever he goes at night and leaves the dog tied out and when he comes home he leaves the dog out and she barks constitently last night she woke me up at 12:30 barking the high pitch bark and i got so angry i could not go back to sleep and i have to drive 33 miles each way to work and have to be there by 7 am so it is not like i can lay back down and catch a nap. my husband has been over there 2 times one time 11:30 at night and i have been over there at 12:30 at night to ask them to do soemthing about the dog barking and he says he cannot control anything that dog does. i was going to call the police last night but there was no sign of anyone being home.
i am going to call the landlord to see if they can do something about this problem
any comments or suggestions

For the individual that is obviously is a pet hater but claims to have had animals and wants to make ill complaints towards a neighbor. Well grow up and get a life! There animals doing what animals do. If they see things out of the norm it is their mental make up of animals to alert their owners. Unless you are a animal psychologist you do not know what the animal is thinking or needs. He is probably barking for joy to be outside.
So for the owner with the pets barking keep letting them out to run a enjoy themselves. It makes for a better pet and allows them to burn off excess energy.

Dog are protectors, and much more.  They are personal property.  Neighbors with dog should try to have dogs in by 11 pm and out by 7am.  And always be concerned over dogs behavior.  But neighbors without dogs or cats think they always know more than the owner of the animal.  Neighbors will actually take over playing and feeding your animal; adopting it without your consent and then want you to take care of medical bills and send the animal home when they tire or the behavior of the animal changes.  I have experienced this problems with many non educated animal people.  I truly try to keep all my animals from being feed by neighbors but they like to project to others that care is lacking in someway. Some neighbors don't love their neighbors.
