I'm pretty sure 9 years is considered a senior citizen. He could be having kidney problems. Are there any crystals or blood in his urine? I would take him to the doctor, I doubt it has anything to do with the new babies but congrats. Nonnie

Try Feliway. I get it here un the UK but know it is available in the US. Its meant to calm cats who are anxious and also stop them from urinating in specific spots. Its a cat hormone that is synthetic and i ahve found it helps. Also, bleach and disinfectant will clean the area but there are components in these products that actually encourange cats to go back to the same spot. Use a non-biological washing powder with cold water and scrub the area. try putting the cats' food in the spot where it goes to the toilet, this may also help.

My cat is 15yrs old and has been urinating from time to time on plastic (even if it on the counter), clothes that are on the floor in the landery room floor and rugs in front on the doors when you come in from outside. We are tring to sale our house and some people have said that they can smell that we have cats. Does any one have any suggestions so I don't have to get rid of him. Please help!

try putting vinegar in a spray bottle and spray around the house, it worked for my cat. Also spray some citrus spray.

It is marking it's territory...I know exactly what you're going through...I have 3 cats, and although they're good most of the time, I need to ensure that I never have clothes lying around, or that I leave a blanket unattended. I always keep my bedroom doors closed when not in use, so they only have the run of the rest of the house, which pretty much helps. Also make sure to keep his litter box extremely clean as the older they get, the more fussy they are. If he's only 9 years old, he's probably going to be around for several years yet. (I had a cat live to be 17.) Also, if you have a Petsmart in your area, they carry something called "Get Serious!" which is very good at cleaning the stain and odor, and keeps them from going there again. (In a white plastic bottle with green and pink ink.) Don't follow the person's advice about cleaning with bleach, as it has a very strong, and dangerous, reaction with the urine. (Experience talking...don't do it!!!) Hope this helps. Cindy

Please don't "get rid" of a 15-year-old cat. It would be cruel. If it gets to that, you should just euthanize. Lots of people have animals and sell their homes.

I have the same problem. I have found that for laundry that a strong amount of oxy clean with detergent soak it overnight will get out the smell. For carpets try urine be gone it will get the smell out. Get the one with the light to begin with it will show u if u missed anything. Then u can just buy the chemicals. I have found it at bed and bath beyond and wal mart. Probably other places too though. Good Luck!

We have had cats for a long, long time. All ages. Do you have other cats? Sometimes, when a cat gets older they don't like to share a litter box so they find a spot on your rug they like and go there. Yes, its a pain in the you-know-what. I've found "Nature's Miracle" to be the best thing to clean it up and take the smell away. Use a very close cell, large sponge to srcup the spot. It's great for stains too. As far as training a cat to use only one litter box, I haven't a clue.

I've tried many things, including Nature's Miracle, but so far the best has been to mix a solution of half water and half vinegar and put it in an old spray bottle. When my cat marks her territory, I blot up as much as I can and then spray with the vinegar solution and scrub into the carpet with a little brush. Then blot that up. The vinegar neutralizes the urine odor. Washing things with a little bit of vinegar in the rinse water will help remove the smell from anything that can be thrown into the washer. Also keeping the litter box very clean helps some.

We have the same problem with our cat. He pees on everything his whole life. My wife had him in college and he peed on her roomates' bed almost daily. He peed in our apartment and now the house. Certain spots on the carpet we clean he moves to another spot. One of my sons bed any laundry and any room he can get in. He is 6 years old and we have put up with him for a long time. We tried everything, all the chemicals, hormone sprays, surgery, self cleaning litter box, and everything you can imagine. My wife considered an animal hypnotist. Haha. We are ready to give him up. Some shelters won't take him because he has "behavioral problems." What options do we have?
