Area animal clinic offering discount on spay/neutering Mary Bailey Eagle Reporter Thursday, Jul 16, 2009 To help reduce the overpopulation of animals in Jefferson County and surrounding areas and to help relieve the burden on animal shelters, a non****fit group, Spay/Neuter Alabama, has cut prices on****cedures it performs. The 501(c)(3) non****fit****anization performs discounted spaying or neutering****cedures out of a double wide trailer in Irondale. Over the past 13 months since the clinic opened, it has operated on 1,100 cats, dogs and several bunnies. Jo Chamblee, Alabama Spay/Neuter Transport Director, said since opening, a dent has been made in the number of animals running loose in Jefferson County. Chamblee hopes more residents in Walker County will take advantage of this discounted service. “We are a non****fit****anization that will be working with rescues, shelters and pet owners to help reduce the numbers of strays running the streets,” Chamblee said. The cost of neutering a cat is $38 and spaying is $53. The cost of neutering a dog is $58 and spaying is $68. The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Alabama Spay/Neuter offers a free transport service to help relieve the stress of those residents who may not be able to take their pets to Irondale. Chamblee said Jasper resident Beverly Webb is the point person for Alabama Spay/Neuter Clinic in Walker County. Webb monitors the phone line and makes appointments for those residents interested in taking part in the****gram. “Beverly will pick up your cat or dog at 7:15 a.m. on either the second or fourth Monday of each month. Afterwards she will drive them down to the clinic to be spayed or neutered,” Chamblee said. “Your pets will have to stay the night, but will be returned the following morning.” Anyone interested in taking part in the****gram may contact Webb at 387-7387.
